There appear to be several lanes throughout town, and they’re all full of dumpsters and trashcans, so it looks like lanes are a simplified trash collection route.
Over the course of the series, it will sprout nonsensical dead-ends, extra houses and streets, lose sections of fence, and lead to impossible places magically. It basically goes in a circle around the street, it is not a shortcut unless they want to hop a fence into someone’s backyard or into the woods. It is a path of purple dirt behind the cul-de-sac’s backyard fences. I guess this is as good a time as any for me to say that I have no idea what function the lane serves. This episode opens in the lane, where Eddy is having trouble getting Ed to sit still while he ties him up.

On top of this episode being very B movie oriented, this image also directly refers to the robot and alien aspects of the story Ed tells. A woman screams as she is approached by a robot that resembles Eddy (square head, three hairs this is the 2nd title card in a row to feature a stand-in for Eddy). It is a parody of B movie posters, the kind Ed would love. I’m not sure why they made it “Eds” instead of “Dawn of the Ed” for the perfect rhyme/pun, but whatever! This is appropriate because Ed reenacts a horror film he wants to see. Today’s title is a reference to Dawn of the Dead, a horror film.
This is also a REALLY good episode, I’m gonna have fun analyzing this one. This was actually the 7th episode to air in the US, but the order on the DVD suggests it was the 4th episode produced.
